Santa Cruz Handweavers Guild Meeting Jan 2010

On January 16, 2010, the Santa Cruz Handweavers Guild and The Museum of Art & History, Santa Cruz will co-sponsor a presentation by Frances Dorsey, entitled “Saigon: Fusion of Memories with History.”

In the 1950s, Frances Dorsey lived in Saigon, Vietnam, where her father was attached to the United States Embassy.  Her childhood memories of Saigon as a serene and beautiful city are in sharp contrast to the reality of the Vietnam War of the 1960s.  Her work addresses contradictions that are inherent in personal memories versus history.

Frances Dorsey is a dyer, printer and weaver.  She is an Associate Professor at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.  Her work is exhibited in Canada, the United States and internationally.

Time, Day and Date: 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 16, 2010
