Black Sheep Handweavers Guild Workshops

Anne Field, a popular teacher and author, will be presenting two workshops in April, sponsored by Black Sheep Handweavers Guild.  She will be coming to California from New Zealand to teach at the CNCH Conference earlier in the month.

Anne Field Workshops      April 2010

FOR WEAVERS

COLLAPSE WEAVETHE MAGIC OF WOOL (2 Day Workshop):   In this workshop students will weave and finish several samples to gain an understanding of the structure of collapse weave. Students will bring their looms already warped. Samples will be woven and discussions on the relative values of active and passive yarns will lead to an understanding of why and when collapse happens. Students will then choose whether to continue sampling, or to weave a scarf.

Date: Tuesday and Wednesday, April 20-21, 2010
Time: 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM
Location: Oak Creek Apartments, Palo Alto, CA

FOR SPINNERS

SPINNING OTHER FIBERS (1 Day Workshop):  The fibers covered will be silk, alpaca and mohair. We will begin with observing and discussing the qualities of the fibers and compare those to the qualities we want in the spun yarn. Different preparation and spinning techniques, from worsted through to woolen will be taught to make the yarn reflect the look of the original fiber and the end use. Several different techniques can be used with each fiber, depending on the required appearance and end use. Small sample skeins will be spun and washed, then analyzed. On a 1 day workshop, already prepared fibers will be used, because of time restraints.
