Using a Knitting Machine for Multicolor Dyeing

Nancy Roberts wearing one of her specially dyed yarn garments

Our guest speaker, Nancy Roberts uses a knitting machine as a tool for multicolor dyeing. By dyeing knitted fabric, rather than dyeing skeins, she produces yarns with controlled repeats of color in subtle gradations. She uses her specially dyed yarns in knitting, weaving, crocheting and felting. An article about her dyeing method was published in the Jan/Feb 2009 issue of Handwoven, and her article “Machine Knitting to Dye For” was featured on the cover of Spin-Off, Fall 2006. Many of her knitwear design patterns have been published in Knitwords magazine. Nancy will present a slide show of her innovative process as well as her work.
