Feb. 11-12 Sacramento Guild Annual Open House
The Sacramento Weavers and Spinners Guild will hold their 2012 Open House, “Fantasy Fibers”. Exhibits, demonstrations, and sales are featured. Held on Saturday & Sunday, February 11-12, at the Shepherd Garden & Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd, Sacramento, CA. from 10:00am – 4:00pm. Free admission and parking.
Feb. 11 The Mystery of the Inca Maize Belts – talk at SF deYoung
The Mystery of the Inca Maize Belts: The Da Vinci Code Without the Murders. Textile Arts Council presents Lynn Meisch, Professor of Anthropology, Saint Mary’s College, who has done extensive field-work documenting the Inca weaving tradition of maize belts from northern Peru. She will share stories of her Andean adventures tracking these 700-year old motifs which link maize agriculture with female fertility. At 10 am in Koret Auditorium, de Young Museum, San Francisco. Free to TAC members, $5 students/Museum members, $10 general. Tickets at the door.
May 15 – July 29 Mark Adams tapestry show at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles
“The bold designs, rich colors and dramatic scale of Mark Adams’… pictorial tapestries will provide a visual feast for visitors.” Over 25 tapestries and cartoons will be on view. More at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles.
