Call for Entry – 2014 CA State Fair

The California State Fair competition and exhibit for California artists and artisans in handcrafts, fiber arts, needlework and quilts.
News Update
Publication of the 2014 Competition Handbook (rules and requirements) has been delayed for a short time. We will send an announcement to our email list and post to our Facebook when and where the 2014 entry materials are published. In the meantime, here are some details about the 2014 California Crafts competition:
Entry Deadline: Friday, April 25, 2014
Entry fee:  Entry Fee for the Handcraft and Fiber Arts and Needlework Shows is $10 per item (sets can be entered as one item). Entry Fee for the Quilt Show (Divisions 190, 193 and 195) is $12 per item.
Online Entry: All entries will be done online via secure website. Items to be judged will need to be shipped or delivered to Cal Expo (see calendar, below). For the Special Contests (Divisions 223 and 225) digital images will need to be submitted as part of the entry process.
Awards: The California State Fair will award Rosettes, Ribbons and Premium (cash) Awards plus there will be Special Awards donated by generous businesses and organizations (to be announced).

Class 2, All clothing and accessories for dolls (except shoes) must be made by the exhibitor.
Class 5 includes doll houses, miniature rooms, and box settings. All furniture and accessories must be attached to the entry.

Note: When entering on-line the Department for these divisions is:

Special instructions:  Entry in this division will require upload of a digital image. The garment must be pictured worn by a person or a mannequin. An optional 2nd image of the back of the garment may be uploaded.
 
Special Rules:  Entries will be judged twice. The initial selection of entries to be exhibited and eligible for prizes will be done via FairJudge – judge will view digital images of the entries on-line. Finalists will be notified and the entries to be exhibited will need to be shipped or delivered to Cal Expo no later than May 16, 2013 for the final judging.
Note: Special Contest entries are not eligible for Best of Division or Best of Show awards; they are eligible for the Creativity Award

Division 223 – Upcycle Fashion
Create a garment or accessory from recycled or re-purposed materials. It can be a re-purposed garment, i.e. a pair of yoga pants that you’ve turned into a halter top, or something newly made such as a shirt made from Tyvek (construction grade plastic wrap) or a duct tape cape or…?  Let your imagination and your creativity run wild!
Note: All entries must be handmade from recycled or repurposed materials

Division 225 – Hunting Shawl inspired by Hunger Games
The 2013 release of Lionsgate Films’ The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has had fiber artists on fire ever since. The cowl hunting shawl designed by Maria Dora of Capital Couture captured the attention of everyone in the audience who loves handmade fashion.  For this special contest, submit your garment inspired by the famous hunting shawl. We’re not looking for exact copies but entries should evoke the spirit of the original.
