Reno Convergence Update

The latest scoop from the HGA Home Office, Suwanee, Georgia!

HGA continues to be thrilled with the overwhelming response to Reno Convergence®! They are loving the response received from California and the support of our CNCH Organization! Their registration numbers haven’t been this great in many years. With that, I say KUDOS TO US, to our fabulous members, and to our organization! WAY TO GO TEAM!

But, let’s not stop here as there are still many incredible classes available, with many volunteer opportunities yet to be filled.
Again, because we done such an excellent job supporting Convergence®, let’s keep our pedals to the metal. Here is a link to Convergence® home page. http://www.weavespindye.org/convergence-2018 for a listing of areas that may be of interest to you for classes, tours, and volunteering.

After you’ve checked what classes have openings, checkout the tours! Although a tour may say it’s sold out, PLEASE put yourself on the “Waitlist”. Because these are studio tours, the occupancy factor must remain small. Therefore, the first showings filled fast. However, if enough people get on the waitlist, a second tour can be scheduled for that afternoon or the alternative date mentioned. These tours provide a rare opportunity to see, and to learn what and how artisans create. And then, if you’re interested in LARGE SCALE art sculpture, you’ll want to see exhibit installations destined to Blackrock Desert for 2018 Burning Man.

If you haven’t yet considered or read about Open Portfolio, Kathi Grupp of HGA encourages our members to consider signing up. Open Portfolio is a rare opportunity to get feedback on your work from some of the best instructors in the fiber arts. It is a wonderful investment in you and your work.  https://www.weavespindye.org/open-portfolio

With your conference schedule squared away, please look for times open to volunteer. Volunteering during Convergence® gives the attendees a new and exciting perspective. HGA is encouraging everyone to be part of the Convergence® and join in the fun. We are actively look for volunteers to help install the exhibits and for packing up exhibits.

Kathi also reports that the exhibits are coming together; the attendees will be struck by the creativity, skill and beauty seen in all the exhibits. Rebekah Jones, HGA Volunteer Coordinator has told me that HELP is needed in the Exhibit Hall for both set up and taken down. This is a longer commitment of time, approximately 2 to 5 hours. The longest time would be hanging the fashion show at the end of the evening . While a larger investment in your time, the advantage of set up and takedown of the Exhibit Hall would be the ability to see and handle items up close as you work with them.  (I’m on the night shift here with helping hang the fashion show garments on Friday night! I can’t wait!)  Note: There are still tickets available for the 6:30 PM Fashion Show!

For a quick and easy volunteer opportunity, Exhibit Hall shifts are one hour. Duties include checking for badges and day passes at the door. Plus, volunteers to monitor the exhibits ensuring people are not touching or handling the exhibits.
Then, for a 2-hour shift, volunteers are needed at the Marketplace Entry, checking badges and day passes into the Marketplace.

To sign-up as a volunteer, or to add to your volunteer time, go to the HGA website under “Volunteer” and click on “Register online”, or click on this link – https://weavespindye.z2systems.com/np/clients/weavespindye/survey.jspsurveyId=21&%20 This on-line volunteer form lists all the events and times where volunteers are needed. If you don’t see a time listed that you’re available in an area of interest, just write a note on the form and submit it to Rebekah Jones, and she’ll contact you by email.
The last suggestion from Rebecca is…if you find yourself with a spare hour or two during Convergence®, you can inquire at the Registration/Volunteer check-in desk; they will find a place for you ?.

CNCH meetings scheduled at Convergence –

In compliance with the CNCH Bylaw’s, the CNCH Advisory Board has scheduled both the Guild Liaison Meeting and the General Meeting for Saturday, July 7th during the lunch break in the White Orchid Room from 12:15 – 1:00 pm. These meetings will be quick but informative, providing additional information and postcards on CNCH 2019 – Fiber Therapy.

Special Notice to Guilds: Please be sure to add this date and time to your Liaison’s calendar. If your Liaison will not be attending Convergence®, please find a member in your guild who can attend in his or her place; there will be a guild roll call.

Operation HGA Goody Bag –
Many thanks to our members for their unbounded creativity and generous donations for Goody Bags! With a June 1st deadline for all donations, already guilds are wrapping up their donation project and shipping them to Rae Stuart. Once all donations are in, we’ll make a list of all the items sent along with photos to post on the CNCH website. Again, thanks for your support. Registrants are going to be both surprised and thrilled to find any of these guild gifts in their conference bag. Combined with donations from Reno companies, we’re estimating there will be 4 items in each bag! Questions, please contact Rae Stuart – stuart1940@sbcglobal.net
All the best, safe travels, and I look forward to seeing you at Convergence®
