The Guilds of Area 5 are planning a fiber fun weekend conference in Oakland in April 2014…. and we hope to see you there! Our theme is BRANCH OUT WITH FIBERS, and we have lots of activities and classes for you to explore. Go ahead! Be daring! Go out on a limb and try a new fiber art!
Oakland Mariott Library- a handy place to meet friends
Oakland is the perfect place for us to meet! It is large enough for a variety of classes, a Market Place & Galleries, Fashion Show and Banquet; yet small enough for a comfortable and intimate presence. And, CNCH will be the only major event, so our fiber presence will be dominate throughout the facility.
It’s easy to get there…. driving directions are straight forward (even for us northern California country gals!) or come by BART, the station is just a block away. For folks coming from afar, Oakland Airport is close by with easy bus and BART connections.
And once there, it’s really easy to get around. The Marriott Hotel is connected to the Convention Center, so all activities and lodging are all “under one roof.” Even the Parking Garage is connected to the Convention Center and Hotel, so

Oakland is a city in renaissance. Neighborhoods and the business community are working together to make it a safe and attractive city. Our event is in the midst of this blossoming area, offering fine restaurants and boutiques within walking distance and a central location to well-known sites, such as The Farmers Market, Jack London Square, and Lake Merritt (if you have time to explore beyond our fiber fun world!)
So, get a group to come from your Guild! Carpool and share your anticipation of the events and co-pilot through the city streets. Bunk up in the connecting Marriott Hotel so that you have more money to spend in the Marketplace! Our CNCH room rates are the same as two years ago: just $119 (+taxes) per night for two double beds or one king bed! And this year, we will have FREE WI-FI in the guest rooms as well as in the public areas!
You will be where the action is… right down the hall and, “Voila!”, you are there with easy pathways to haul materials and tools and attend classes, meet with friends, explore the Market Place, Galleries, Demonstrations and Events.
