CNCH and HGA Join Forces

Convergence and Complex Weavers come to Reno July 2018.  We are excited about the many opportunities these conferences present for our membership.  In lieu of our CNCH 2018 Conference and in support of Handweavers’ Guild of America, the CNCH Advisory Council has approved the following activities.

CNCH and HGA are coordinating a Sheep to Shawl Competition on Saturday, July 7th in the vendor hall from 12-4pm, with judging from 4-5pm.  This competition is limited to five eight-person teams.  Team registration is $25.  Registration will be on-line and will close following the first five registrations.  Only one team will be allowed per guild. T eam prizes: 1st $200, 2nd $150, 3rd $100.  Thanks to Clemes and Clemes, San Pablo, CA, for donating the prizes!  For registration, be sure to check the following HGA link on or before December 6th.

Goody Bags – Join us in making Convergence on our “home turf” a memorable event.  While 600-700 goody bags seems like a daunting number for a small group, it’s EASY PEASY for 26 CNCH guilds (1,600) members!  Donations may be handmade, purchased, or both.  Please label each item with a minimum of your guild’s name and hometown. Reno Fiber Guild member, Rae Stuart, is coordinating the project. Please contact Rae at stuart1940@sbcglobal.net , letting her know what your guild plans to contribute and the approximate number. Mail your contributions to  Rae Stuart, 17664 Alexandria Court, Reno NV 89508.  Deadline for receiving contributions is June 1, 2018.

Grant Announcement – There will be two grants awarded ($1,000 and $500) by CNCH.  Applications will be available on the CNCH website.  Deadline for applications is January 15, 2018. Grant recipients will be notified February 1, 2018. www.cnch.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Convergence-2018-Grant-Application-Fillable.pdf   Any questions, contact CNCH Administrative Assistant, Erin Maclean, Advisory@CNCH.org

HGA will also be awarding three grants. For details, go to http://www.weavespindye.org/grants

Equipment RentalSacramento Spinners’ & Weavers’ Guild member, Barbara Cabrol, is coordinating equipment rental for Convergence attendees.  If you think you may have equipment for loan or rent, contact Barbara at weaverbc@gmail.com

Organized Tours – Five tour options have been specifically planned for Convergence: a private viewing of the Nevada State Museum collection of fabulous native baskets, a visit the Marjorie Russell Historic Textile Collection and a traditional Parisian hat maker, a behind the scenes look at Reno’s Art Community including works for Burning Man, private studio tours, and more.

While still in development, HGA has posted lots of information to date and will be updating elements as they become available.  Currently you can find seminars and workshops offered, some information on costs, and a schedule of events.

General registration opens December 6th. Priority registration (November 29th) is available to those who have donated $100 this year to the HGA Fiber Trust.   http://www.weavespindye.org/convergence-2018
