CNCH 2008
The California Trail CNCH 08 will be hosted by the following guilds, which make up Area 4: Gravander Spinners
The California Good Rush and the ensuing migration West is a major part of American History and it happened right in Area 4s back yard. Although gold was discovered in Coloma in January 1848, by the time word got east, it was too late to start the trip west. So 1849 actually saw the largest migration ever across the Oregon/California/Mormon trail. Over 25,000 came to California by covered wagon that year. Remember California wasnt a state until 1850 and the transcontinental railroad was not finished until 1869. Therefore we have proudly selected THE CALIFORNIA TRAIL as our theme to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Discovery of Gold, and to honor those brave souls that walked more than 2000 miles over 5 plus months from St. Louis/Independence MO to settle in the west. |
