Basket Makers Baskets may have been the first woven objects. They were used for gathering and storing food and sometimes the techniques and materials were used for protective clothing and sandals. The coiled pine needle basket on the left is a blue ribbon winner from CNCH '99 by Kathleen Krebs. The basket on the right is also coiled. It is made from South Carolina sweetgrass and was purchased from a street vendor in Charleston, SC. |
