Spinners No one knows when prehistoric woman (or man) first discovered that twisting two or more pieces of long grass together made a rope with a great deal more strength than just the single piece. From that beginning, humans learned to twist, or spin, the fibers from inside the stalks of linen and other bast plants, as well as how to card and comb the coats of sheep and goats. In fact, it's safe to say that people have tried spinning just about everythingeven steel has been stranded and twisted to form the cords in a steel belted radial tire! Some CNCH Guilds were started primarily by spinners, but all guilds welcome spinners as members who bring another dimension to the love of fiber work. |
