CNCH 2016

Welcome to Modesto

Welcome to Modesto

You’ve been to the coast in 2015… so start planning now to head to the rich Central Valley fields for new fiber inspirations in 2016.

CNCH 2016 is excited to present an incredible array of some of the most dynamic instructors from across the continent for you.
This conference will be the fertile field to grow your fiber knowledge and branch out your skills. Instruction will be offered in weaving, spinning, dyeing, basket making, color and design. Workshop topics are designed to tempt the novice and enthrall the experienced weaver, spinner, dyer and basket maker. A variety of class formats, 3, 6 and 9 hour, can accommodate those who wish to nibble, taste or to delve deeper into their own particular area of interest.

A sampling of class topics includes using handspun on the rigid heddle loom, designing yarn with exotic fibers, beginning to weave on a band loom, decoding mill-spun yarns, weaving fabric to wear and lattice tray baskets, spinning shimmering silk, weaving supplementary warps without using a secondary beam, taming the hue, introduction to fabric analysis, changing your cloth from bland to beautiful, weaving small rib baskets and discovering the possibilities of woven design by changes in tie-up alone.

Workshops are calculated to extend your skills, broaden your knowledge.
The Conference commences with a special Vendor Welcome with food and beverages on Opening Friday Night. This is a chance for you to meet up with your friends, enjoy a glass and be the first to shop the Conference Marketplace. This unique fiber, yarn and goodies market will be open Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

Galleries of on-going and finished products will be woven into the vendors’ area. These special enclaves will include unique pieces by the instructors, to-die-for pieces of complex weaving, baskets perfect to use when one needs to transport items from farm to town, the legacy Return to Sender, and Return to Return to Sender, and other inspirational gallery exhibits.

CNCH16 planning team is partnering with the town of Modesto for this return engagement of the Conference of Northern California Handweavers. (We were here in 2006) Modesto is excited to welcome again the creativity and beauty of fiber artists, and has a number of public-engagement opportunities planned (anyone for yarn-bombing?).
