2012 Oakland
CNCH 2012 conference at Oakland Convention Center
Tradition / Innovation
Welcome to CNCH 2012, the 60th annual conference of the Conference of Northern California Handweavers. The dates are May 18-20, 2012 and the location is the Oakland Convention Center.
Conference Theme is Tradition/Innovation
Our theme celebrates the traditions our crafts are built on and the innovations that fiber artisans are exploring. What brings us together is the tradition of craft that we enjoy, but it is what we make of that tradition that is the innovation. Our galleries and fashion show provide us with a showcase for our own innovation. We celebrate new fibers, and make use of new techniques including computer software that allows us to take our textile arts to new and exciting levels.
Location is Oakland
We’re excited to host conference at this new central location- the Oakland Convention Center with the adjoing Oakland Marriott City Center as the conference hotel. Both are going through a renovation in their meeting rooms and sleeping rooms that will be completed this winter, so the facilities should be fresh and wonderful. Our event is taking over all the public rooms so it’ll be just us on the convention grounds.
What’s Planned?
There will be a marketplace for vendors in the large convention hall, always a highlight at CNCH’s full conferences. There will be shopping for yarns, tools, books, and much more.
The conference kicks off Friday evening with a Fashion Show. And early shopping for conference registrants only will be available Friday afternoon.
Our wonderful teachers will be presenting classes all day Saturday and Sunday on subjects that cover both traditions and innovations in our crafts. Nine hours instruction in 3- and 6-hour classes are included in your full registration. You have the option of purchasing an additional 3-hour class if you wish.
Exhibits and galleries are planned as well. These will be open all day Saturday and Sunday. Plan to share your work!
Saturday evening will feature a banquet for attendees with a keynote address by Peggy Osterkamp.
Registration for conference opens November 1, 2011. Online registration will be available. It’s the preferred method, and does give you that instant confirmation about your class selections. But if you prefer, registration by mail will be accepted as well.
