Ana Lisa’s signature Shibori textiles are included in the collections at the DeYoung, the Cooper Hewitt, and the Textile Museum. She received two NEA grants and is a fellow of the American Craft Council. She has been an instructor at SF State, CCA, and at numerous conferences and craft programs.

Shibori Dying with Indigo

                                                 

Using different substrates of cellulose, silk, paper, and handwoven, students will explore the possibilities of Arashi pole wrapping, Itajime folding and clamping, and stitch resist. Experimenting is encouraged. We will make a pre-reduced indigo vat and paint and dip cloth in Kakishibu for shades of tan and grey. The class will learn how to use potassium permanganate to discharge indigo creating blue patterns against a white background. Students will produce several scarves and a portfolio of samples.
Beginners and experienced dyers are welcome
Material Fees Approximately $50. Including dyes and several scarves
Materials Needed: scissors, needle and thread, tape measure, rubber gloves, dust mask, 1” – 2” cheap bristle brushes, blue painters tape, ball of string, 2” – 3” C clamps, wood or plexi blocks, PVC pipe. 2”- 4” diameter, about 1 yard long.
Sewing machine optional

No prep required but handover fabric would be great
