Fabulous Felt Flowers

Discover the fascinating art of transforming Merino wool fibers into vibrant, three-dimensional flowers. In this fun hands-on class, we will transform Merino wool top into beautiful felt flowers using just our hands, imagination, and a little soap and water. This magical process is called wet-felting. Come, let your creativity bloom. Felt flowers make a great embellishment for felt hats…they can either be stitched on, or by adding a pin back, you could also wear it on a coat, sweater, etc. Felt flowers also make great gifts.

Skill Level for this Workshop: This class welcomes beginners and experienced feltmakers alike.

Materials Fee: $20.00 per student. Fee includes: Merino wool in two colorways, plastic resist material, written instructions and templates, and use of instructor supplies.

Students will need to bring:
Mild soap for felting…I like to use olive oil bar soap, but any mild soap will be fine.
2 bath sized towels.
1 pair sharp scissors
Small plastic bucket (beach pail size) or bowl for water.
Water sprinkler bottle or Ballbrause. I will have several which can be shared.
Bubble wrap with small bubbles (Minimum width 12 inches x 3 ft. length (available in dollar stores).
A fine needle and thread for beading, and beads if you would like to bead in class. This can also be done at home after class.

FELT AND NUNO-FELT HATS WORKSHOP

I love making hats…Come and let me share my passion with you. I like to think of hats as wearable works of art, small felt sculptures in fact. During our felt exploration, there will be ample time for experimentation, as well as inspiration, as we create fabulous felt and nuno-felt hats through the wet-felting process using just our hands, imagination, and a little soap and water. We will focus on techniques, patterns, and concepts…using both open and closed resists (and some using multiple resists) … to design our felt millinery creations. Participants will create hats with Merino wool tops along with the option of incorporating lightweight silk fabrics for nuno-felting. You will love the artistic possibilities, with functionality as an added bonus.

The possibilities are endless. Such a dilemma …Yes indeed, so many hat styles and only one head! Which style will
you choose? Fun, whimsical, flashy, or classic?

Expertise Level: I’m happy to work with all levels.

MATERIALS FEE PER WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT: $20 covers plastic laminate material for two patterns,
plastic resist materials, and written instructions.

Supplies needed will be supplied when you sign up for the class
