Enduring Fiber Roots Conference Grant Recipients

Enduring Fiber Roots Conference Grant Recipients

Nancy Williams

It is with great pleasure that the Grants Committee announces the recipients of the CNCH 2024 Conference Scholarships:

Area 1: Susan Penny, Santa Cruz Textile Guild
Area 2: Patricia Martin, Central Coast Weavers
Area 3: Lisa Scandrette, Spindles and Flyers
Area 4: Courtney Wright, Sacramento Weavers and Spinners and Hangtown Weavers
Area 5: Jill Valavanis, Redwood Guild of Fiber Arts

The Conference Scholarships are awarded yearly to one applicant from each of the five areas by which CNCH is organized. Conference Scholarships are supported by the fundraiser which takes place during the conference. This year we will conduct a silent auction of guild-donated tools and materials intended to help us all nurture our Fiber Roots.

The Grants Committee received 21 applications, each of which had merit. We were wowed by the variety of applicants, from people who have never attended conference, to long-time CNCH attendees; from new weavers coming in from other fiber arts, to long-time weavers ready to try something different. Most impressive was how many applicants engaged in regular activities where they share skills and mentor others, both in their guilds and in other community settings. It was quite a job to winnow the applications down to the five recipients. We thank everyone who applied, and hope to see all of them at Conference.
