Pine Needle Basket

The coiling technique of pine needle basketry will be taught in this class.  This technique involves stitching together bundles of pine needles in a continuous spiral.  Each student will create a trivet, which can serve as a heat-resistant mat to protect surfaces from hot dishes and cookware.  Or, it can be used as a decorative item, adding a natural handcrafted touch to a table setting or wall accent.  The stitch used to create the trivet will be the wheat stitch.
