One Good Turn Deserves Another

Del Oro Spinners and Weavers, along with many CNCH guilds,  took on the challenge from HGA to create something for the goodie bags at Convergence 2018 and decided to “Put a good spin on it!”

We began with wooden dowels and wooden toy wheels. Led by Lee Bergman, Kathleen McPherson and her family created jigs, drilled holes for hooks, and set the little wheels to get them ready for a shot of primer.

Guild members then gathered at Lee’s studio to design and paint whimsical patterns on the little spindles. Not to string you along, but we spun a few good yarns in the process!

Lee’s Scottish Deerhounds even loaned us their travel pens so that we could suspend the newly painted spindles to dry. A final coat of clear lacquer finished the spindles, and they were ready to pack.

We shipped the spindles off to be placed in the many goodie bags to be given out at HGA’s Convergence in Reno. We hope those of you who may have received one of these whirling dervishes will “spin a tale” and share your passion for fiber. Remember, “It’s not twisted until you give it a good turn….and that deserves another.”

Del Oro Spinners and Weavers

In 1982 a group of spinners and weavers gathered in the upstairs of Maxine Dalbin’s shop in Amador City, and Del Oro Spinners and Weavers was formed. The mission was to help develop the art of spinning and hand weaving. Over the years fiber interests have included dying, basketry, felting, and bookbinding. Members are active in the county fair, local living history days, county Ag Days, and in the schools as volunteers in a fiber art program. Del Oro meets in Sutter Creek at the Methodist Church the third Wednesday of the month, except for July and August.
