BAY AREA BASKET MAKERS

CHALLENGE GALLERY ENTRIES

Eugenia Gwathney

BABM decided to take on the Challenge Gallery for the conference in April 2020. As a group we elected to have the challenge be a grab bag basket. Each member would donate some materials to be used in weaving a basket.

Members brought donations in December and January to be donated. Not all members attended both meetings. The most varied donations were in January. Therefore, members who

picked up materials at that meeting had a wider variety to use. Rules were established beforehand and you were allowed to add or subtract up to 20 percent of the materials. One rule from me was no seed beads! They are particularly difficult to work into a basket.

Materials included were reed flat and round, plastic strapping, Draco dracaena, waxed linen, yarn, beads, paper twist, raffia, coir, sisal string, braided seagrass, seagrass cordage, leather, and probably more.

The baskets were collected in March to be delivered in April to the Conference. You all know what happened next. So, they have been sitting in my studio up to now.

Included here is a photo of the materials, followed by individual baskets by BABM members.
