CNCHnet: The Midsummer Issue 2022

The Midsummer Issue

Midsummer Musings

Cathy Koos

Fresh strawberries and cream; Sloughhouse melons and corn; tomatoes hot off the vine:  these are the head-spinning scents and colors of summer!  How does summer inspire your projects?  Are you looking ahead to holiday gifts or are you in-the-moment of creativity?

CNCH has such a diverse guild membership, and we would love to hear from you!  Let us know your activities, any upcoming workshops, educational programs, field trips.  Add us to your guild newsletter distribution at editor@cnch.org

Del Oro Spinners and Weavers is demonstrating at the Amador County Fair.  In addition to live demonstrations in the art building, the guild has a fair-theme-based display each year.  This year’s theme is Around the World in Four Days!  A little fairy told me that Del Oro won a blue ribbon!

Tapestry Weavers West recently hosted a show and tell for members via Zoom.  Back in March Elizabeth Buckley gave a talk on technique and process called Transparency and Layers in Tapestry.

Studio Organization.  How do you organize your studio?  Do you have a separate room to pursue your craft or is it scattered throughout your house?  Or maybe a tiny house-type building altogether separate?  Do you have a separate space for dye or other messy processes?  I am kind of an in-the-moment person and while I am planning a project, I want to have everything out.  Then once my plans are laid, I keep out just the items needed. Share how you do (or don’t) keep organized.

Natural Fiber Fair – Arcata, California

September September 10-11, 2022

Just 5 hours north of San Francisco tucked away on the redwood coast you will find the Natural Fiber Fair.  Chocked full of vendors, workshops, a spinning circle, this promises to be a fun event!  You can learn the art of pysanki, felt a mermaid on wire armature, weave a facecloth, and even make an Appalachian basket.  For more information:  http://www.naturalfiberfair.com/welcome.html

Keep cool and think of autumn,

Cathy, Editor
